Abstract:
Aim to mast the gap of CGS and other the developed countries, we analyze the R& D situation among CGS and USGS by using the methods of bibliometric and social network. We collect bibliometric data of papers published from 2013 to 2017 by authors from CGS and USGS in SCI-E and CPCI-S, and summarize the developing trends of papers, the distribution of the subjects, the international cooperation and cooperative network of organizations and the research hotspots. The results show that from 2013 to 2017,the total published papers of CGS showed a significant growth trend, while that of USGS showed a stable and rising trend. However, the academic influence of USGS has a greater advantage than that of CGS.CGS paid high attention to basic geology and resource-based geosciences studies in research fields and hot spots, while USGS was more concerned about new geosciences studies such as climate change related to ecological environment and natural disasters. In terms of international cooperation and institutional cooperation, both CGS and USGS had active cooperation with institutions of universities in developed countries. However, due to different research focuses, CGS and USGS did not have much cooperation.
