Abstract: Geological data metadata as a kind of information resource, which contains very valuable information.With the rapid development of information technology and network, the collected metadata results are deeply combined with geological data, which meets the diverse needs of users and promotes the tracking and understanding of the progress of geological work.At the same time, new requirements were put forward for the cataloging of geological data metadata and the cooperation of data exchange between archives.From the perspective of the organization and construction of digital resources of geological data, this paper expounds the concept and technical system composition of the digital geological archives, and comprehensively discusses the construction of geological metadata from the aspects of the geological metadata system, metadata achievements, and data services progress.The paper also analyzes the problems existing in the construction of metadata for current collection institutions.Suggestions were made based on the issues raised.
