Abstract:
The Africa Continent with superior ore-forming geological conditions is abundant in mineral resources and has great prospecting potential. Africa Continent is an important area for Chinese enterprises overseas mining industry investment. The study on the new exploration progress of major mineral in Africa Continent has important significance for deepening the basic geological research and is conducive to Chinese enterprises to carry out mining investment in Africa Continent since the 21st century. Based on the study of the overall situation, distribution characteristics of newly discovered important deposits, the distribution pattern of the increases in reserves and resources and the main deposit types & metallogenic epoch of deposits of the major mineral resources which have made important exploration progress in Africa Continent. The results show that: ①the major strategic mineral resources in Africa Continent, such as gold, copper, iron, uranium, nickel, lithium and bauxite, have made important exploration progress since the 21st century. Gold and copper deposits have made the biggest exploration progress among all kinds of mineral resources in Africa Continent. ②The important polymetallic metallogenic belts such as the West Africa Craton, Congo Craton and Kalahari Craton are the main contributors of exploration progress of major mineral resources in Africa Continent. ③The mineral deposits that have made significant exploration progress in gold, copper, iron, bauxite, uranium, nickel, manganese, chromium, lithium are mainly formed in Precambrian. ④Orogenic-type gold deposit, sandstone-shale-hosted copper ( cobalt ) deposit, BIF-type iron deposit, laterite bauxite deposit, copper-nickel sulfide-type nickel deposit, and pegmatite-type lithium deposit are the main deposits types which have made important exploration progress. ⑤Mineral resources such as gold, copper, nickel, bauxite, and iron, which are closely related to the Precambrian Craton, will be the main focus of exploration and prospecting in the region in the future. In the future, China should strengthen mineral resources exploration and development cooperation with Western Africa and Central Africa. The orogenic-type gold deposits, laterite bauxite deposits and BIF-type iron deposits are the important targets for Chinese enterprises mining investment in Western Africa. The shale-hosted copper (cobalt) deposits in Central African copper-cobalt metallogenic belt are the important targets for Chinese enterprises mining investment in Central Africa.
