Abstract: The spatial distribution imbalances of energy supply and consumption intensifies the regional energy security issues.Guangdong Province is densely populated and economically developed,where most of China's energy consumption is concentrated in this area on the one hand and it is rather poor in energy resources and very serious in energy supply and demand contradiction on the other hand.To guarantee energy security of Guangdong Province is the key of sustainable economic and social development at local level.As a result,it is particularly important to comprehensively evaluate the energy security situation in Guangdong Province,to protect Guangdong Province of energy security means and to formulate policy measures.The DPSIR assessment method,which implies the relationships among driving force(D),pressure(P),state(S),impact(I),and response(R),is widely applied by scholars.This paper aims to establish a comprehensive assessment system for regional energy security in Guangdong Province from 1995through 2008based on the above model using different indicators.Factor analysis was also used to carry out scientific and quantitative assessments.Conclusions are drawn as follows.First,population,economic and industrial structure are the main driving force factors that energy security situation changed in Guangdong Province.Second,energy security pressure of Guangdong Province is mainly determined by the lack of fossil energy resources(coal,oil),energy efficiency and energy structure.Third,economic efficiency of energy is the critical factors that affect energy security state in Guangdong Province.Fourth,the impact that related to energy production and consumption is mainly focus on the environment,and therefore energy security "response" should expand by sticking closely to energy-saving and emission-reduction that ensure energy utilization security,the highest goal of energy security.Because of this,some countermeasures and suggestions for energy security in Guangdong Province were pointed out,which aims to establish appropriate development strategy of Guangdong Province,as well as provide theoretical support for evading energy security risk effectively.
