Abstract: As a kind of fossil energy,coal is significant for China's economic growth meanwhile its influence on the environment cannot be ignored.Using the data of Shanxi coal production,regional GDP,GDP and Shanxi environmental pollution,this paper analyzed the relationship of coal production and economic growth and environmental pollution using the methods of stationarity test,cointegration test and granger causality test.The results showed that the coal production has a long-term and stable relations with Shanxi economic growth,China's economic growth and environmental pollution.Specifically,there is the two-way causality between coal production and Shanxi economic growth;China's economic growth has unidirectional causality to coal production;Coal production has unidirectional causality to Shanxi waste gas,SO₂,and solid waste.
