Abstract: Coal is a cornerstone for China's energy security.Coal use will continue a major proportion of the primary energy consumption for a long time to come.To reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions，the development of clean coal technology is the inevitable choice for China.This paper briefly introduces the clean coal power generation technology，new coal chemical technology，coal-based co-production technology，coal and oil co-processing technology，carbon capture and storage technology and their development situation in China.Based on the related literatures worldwide in last 10 years，the evaluation methods of clean coal technology are summarized and the evaluation results of clean coal technology are reviewed in detail by category.Finally，a comprehensive commentary of the current research features and results are given and priorities of the development trend of coal use in China are proposed.
