Abstract: Shanxi Province abounds in bauxite resources,whose cumulative identified and retained reserve both rank first in China.It is great significance to achieve its sustainable development in Shanxi Province.This paper summarizes the characteristics of Shanxi bauxite resources,such as wide distribution,mainly small to medium scale,medium grade,good performance in mining and processing.The existing problems in the development and utilization of bauxite have been analyzed:Utilization level is low;Degree of comprehensive utilization is not high;Mining order is at random;Exploration level is low.Finally,sustainable development strategies of Shanxi bauxite resources have been put forwards:to improve level of information management and environmental governance of bauxite ore;to improve the utilization level of low-grade and comprehensive utilization of multi-metal ore resources;to improve protection level of resources;to put aluminum industry into a new core industry in Shanxi Province.
