Abstract: In recent years，many scholars launched a large number of researches in the Wulungu Depression of the Junggar Basin.Many results and valuable experiences indicate that the Wulungu Depression has great exploration potential.But a lot of controversies still exist in the awareness of the main hydrocarbon source rocks.In this paper，on the basis of summarizing the predecessors’ research results，lots of basic and experimental studies are conducted.A detailed evaluation is carried out in the source rock geochemistry characteristics of Jurassic，Triassic and Carboniferous in the Wulungu Depression，and predicted their hydrocarbon generation potential is predicted As the most high-quality hydrocarbon source rocks，the Lower Carboniferous is the main hydrocarbon grnerating member of the depression，and can be explored，as the target layer the Upper Carboniferous and Batamayineishan Formation and the Triassic Baijiantan Formation are followed，and Jurassic source rock is poor and has no raw hydrocarbon conditions.
