Abstract: This paper generally introduces the three evolutionary stages of the United States Geological Survey's core concept,namely "Provide Services for West Region's Development","Provide Geo-scientific Information for National Development"and "Sciences for a Changing World",and summarizes the main features of this core concept that reflects the position,mission and function of USGS,has become the pillar of USGS's development,and can keep pace with times.These features may enlighten us in terms of structuring and establishing the core concept of China Geological Survey.In this context,this paper proposes the following suggestions:firstly,pay attention to the industries' characteristics and social demand;secondly,extract the core concept based on collecting comments widely;thirdly,actively expand the concept system;fourthly,construct the communication channel;fifthly,link with the base construction.
