Abstract: Major mining companies are the core players involved in the mining market.The development trend of large mining companies can directly reflect the situation of the global mining market.Analysis of the latest development strategies and trends of major mining companies has significant reference for making the development and investment strategy of mining companies in China.This paper analyzes the history of major mining companies, the characteristics of monopoly and financialization, and the development trends in recent years.The main conclusions are as follows:global major mining companies have experienced five stages:localization, diversification, globalization, monopoly and financialization, and low carbonization and high technology; international mining companies, with the participation of financial capital, occupy a large number of high-quality mine projects and monopolize the global mining market; mining companies from the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia are highly financialized, while mining companies in China, Russia and other countries are less financialized; the overall trend of global major mining companies is in a strategic contraction.The strategic contraction of international mining companies is both an opportunity and a challenge for Chinese companies.China’s mining companies should be highly cautious in the investment process to avoid becoming a “poor project taker”.
