Abstract
Sepiolite, a natural silicate clay mineral with adsorption activity, is a kind of adsorbent with high efficiency in water pollution, soil pollution and air pollution control. The adsorption mechanism of sepiolite is reviewed, and the effects of sepiolite adsorption on mixed pollutants, such as mixed heavy metal ions, mixed organic dye, coexistence of heave metal and organic dye, and toxic and/or harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, sulfur dioxide is introduced. The existing problems of sepiolite used as adsorbent for environmental protection are summarized, and the directions for future research direction are prospected. The current research is mainly based on static adsorption tests, and the wastewater used in experiments is simulated wastewater prepared by the laboratory.Dynamic adsorption tests should be carried out in the future, and the actual wastewater should be taken as the research object. After being modified, the adsorption capacity of sepiolite is improved to a certain extent. In the future, the modifier and modification process should be optimized, thus the adsorption capacity can be improved further.Combining with the advantages of all kinds of adsorbent, sepiolite should be combined with other organic, inorganic or biological materials to develop new composite adsorbents with better adsorption effect.
