Abstract
In the context of China’s ecological civilization construction strategy, based on the concept of “ecological safety of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grassland”, it is particularly important to explore low-carbon land use patterns which are suitable for mining areas. The open pit mining process destroyed the original vegetation on the surface and caused partial or total loss of carbon storage. This paper makes use of research and practice on low-carbon land use at home and abroad. We seek ways to reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration from the three aspects of the principles, objectives and approaches of low-carbon land use in mining areas.According to the existing “5R” principle, the method is optimized according to the specificity of the mining area.Through the implementation of land reclamation projects such as landform reconstruction, soil reconstruction, and vegetation recovery, the “carbon source” type land in the mining ecosystem will be gradually transformed into “carbon sequestration” land.Through the re-planning of the spatial layout and methods of land use, the ultimate goal is to make the land use structure more reasonable, more efficient, and more scientific in time and space. In the process of coal mining and land reclamation project, through measures to reduce energy consumption and reduce carbon intensity, as a result, the land reclamation rate will increase and the carbon sequestration function of the mining area will also be improved.
