Analysis of the school-based EPP teacher's training program

    • The need for a lingua franca for rapid development of technology, education, and business has led to the worldwide demand of English for specific purposes (ESP).In refined petroleum or petroleum-related international industries, there is an increasing demand for the professionals and staff to have a good command of petroleum English. But the fact is that in China due to the deficiency of qualified EPP(English for petroleum purposes) teachers, the teaching of petroleum English in petroleum universities and colleges is greatly limited.Based on the theories and role analysis of ESP teachers and the practical experience of a school-based teachers' English training program, the author applied a more practical definition of EPP teachers' role of being a coach, a consultant as well as a trainer, which will help achieve a better understanding and practice of the training itself. Then some possible ways for establishing an effective EPP teacher training program in petroleum universities were followed up, including the application of the 6 principles of TESOL to the training.
