Current status of manganese ore resources in China and selecting for national physical geological data of manganese ore deposits

    • China’s manganese ore resources are characterized by abundant resources, small scales, uneven distribution, generally low grades, complex genetic types, large span of metallogenic epoch, and high dependence on foreign countries.By 2016, the proven reserves of domestic manganese ore are 1.551 billion tons, and the number of deposits is huge, resulting in a large amount of physical geological data.Based on the current status of China’s manganese ore resources, and combined with the selecting principles of physical geological data, this paper summarizes the selecting criteria of national manganese ore, that is, the scale of the deposit is large, the grade is rich, the genesis is typical, the distribution is in the key metallogenic area or the main metallogenic epoch and other criteria.A total of 35 manganese ore catalogues in line with the collection of the National Physical Geological Data Archives selected nationwide, reflects the metallogenic characteristics of China’s manganese ore, provides scientific basis and service support for the systematic collection of manganese ore geological data.
