The evolution of global trade pattern of bulk mineral resources and its influencing factors

    • China’s economic development has entered the middle and late stages of industrialization. The growth rate of economic development has slowed down and the demand for mineral resources has gradually entered the peak area. However, China still needs to consume a large amount of mineral resources to complete its own industrialization. With the promotion of domestic ecological civilization construction, the supply of domestic mineral resources will be affected to a certain extent. Therefore, the dependence on international trade will gradually increase.Taking iron, copper, aluminum, lead, zinc and manganese as examples, based on the complex network model, this paper analyzes the evolution of the global bulk mineral resources trade pattern from 1997 to 2016, and discusses its influencing factors. It is concluded that the increase of commodity prices has no obvious negative impact on commodity trade, therefore, maintaining a reasonable price range is conducive to the sustainable development of global bulk mineral resources trade. The factors influencing the evolution of trade pattern of different bulk mineral resources are different, the policy makers need to “consider the practical situation” in the process of formulating China’s trade policy on mineral resources.
