Carbon emission characteristics of long-sequence energy consumption in mining cities in north China

    • The long-sequence energy consumption carbon emission characteristics of regional perspectives have a certain significance for the formulation of low-carbon emission reduction policies.Based on the difficulty in obtaining data at the prefecture-level and below in China, the differences in statistical standards, and the lack of research on long-sequence carbon emissions of energy consumption in mining cities.Based on the simulation of night light image data, the carbon emissions of energy consumption in north China’s mining cities from 1995 to 2017 are estimated.Multi-dimensional research is conducted on mining cities to analyze the differences in carbon emissions of different mining cities. The results show that the mining-type cities with high carbon emissions from energy consumption are growing coal-type, renewable iron ore-type, mature iron ore-type, and Zhangjiakou, Xinzhou, Chifeng among the mature coal types; the intensity effect is an important means to decouple the energy consumption carbon emissions from economic growth.Combining the control of population effects and scale effects, through scientific low-carbon emission reduction policies, it can effectively control the increase in energy consumption carbon emissions and accelerate the mining-type economic transformation of cities.
