Effect of calcination temperature on the interaction between kaolinite and gold thiosulfate

    • Because of the high temperature activation of pyrometallurgy, gold likely interacts with silicate minerals such as kaolinite, which makes gold recovery more difficult. It is significant to explore the influence of calcination temperature on the interaction between gold and kaolinite.Room temperature kaolinite and the kaolinite slag at different temperatures is fully mixed with gold thiosulfate for stirring tests. The mechanism of interaction between kaolinite and gold thiosulfate is discussed by combining infrared and X-ray diffraction. At pulp concentration of 28.6%, initial gold concentration of 85 mg/L, stirring speed of 500 r/min, and stirring time of 30 min, which proved that kaolinite has strong adsorption capacity for gold thiosulfate.Compared with stirring at room temperature, roasting activated kaolinite enhances the adsorption of activated kaolinite for gold thiosulfate. The amount of gold thiosulfate adsorbed on the roasted slag increased sharply after calcination at 700 ℃, indicating that the roasted slag at this temperature has a strong adsorption capacity for gold thiosulfate.
