Suggestions on the layout of underground gas storage in China

Under the situation of the high dependence on the import of natural gas in China, it is of great practical significance to construct a reasonable underground natural gas storage layout for ensuring the national energy security and promoting the long-term economic development of China.Based on the investigation of the layout of underground gas storage in foreign countries with developed gas reserves, analyzes the characteristics of natural gas consumption and underground gas storage construction resources in different regions of China.The adaptability of regional gas storage construction in China is comprehensively evaluated by using expert scoring method, and suggestions on the layout of underground gas storage in China are put forward.The results show that the supply of natural gas in northwest China is diversified but the consumption is small, and the construction of oil and gas storage is rich in resources.The construction of underground gas storage should take strategic reserve as the first purpose.China’s central and western and southwest regions have sufficient natural gas supply, and have the conditions for the construction of large-scale gas reservoir type gas storage, and are close to the economically developed regions in central and eastern China.The construction of gas storage should take into account the strategic demand and peak shaving demand, and build China’s natural gas reserve “hub area”.The Bohai rim region and northeast region have large seasonal peak shaving demand, and have a certain amount of oil type gas storage capital.In order to meet the demand of peak shaving, the construction of oil and gas storage should be carried out.The resources of oil and gas storage in central and southern China are insufficient, but the conditions of salt cavern and water-containing gas storage are available.The conditions of underground gas storage in southeast coastal areas are relatively insufficient, so LNG construction should be the main means to improve the natural gas storage capacity.
