The existing methods for the classification of geological relics mainly construct classification standards and systems from the single dimension of geological types, and the classification results often result in the embarrassment of the coexistence, juxtaposition and undistinguishable of relics of different scales,it is difficult to meet the needs of geological heritage survey, evaluation and value development at this stage,a more scientific, reasonable and systematic geological heritage classification system is urgently needed, which is in line with the practice of geological heritage development and protection in China and the world geoparks application guidelines. On the basis of comprehensive domestic and foreign geological relic classification system, combined with long-term field practice and the requirements of world geopark application guidelines, the three-dimensional geological relics classification system of “scale attribute dimension + space-time attribute dimension + subject classification attribute dimension” is proposed, which is a concrete format definition of concrete geological relics and a new type of geological relics coding, more suitable for data management, and different from the previous “classification by type, grade or nature” of the geological heritage classification scheme, can better serve the domestic geological heritage development and protection, service in the world geopark application and construction.
