Mining geothermal water extraction and intelligent scheduling technology under coal-heat co-mining mode

    • The development of deep mine geothermal resources is of great significance in response to China’s strategic goal of “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” and achieving a green and clean energy transformation. Based on the context of Pingdingshan No.10 Mine, the geothermal water development potential in the mining area is evaluated by using the method of thermal reservoir volume, and the results show that the geothermal water in the mining area has a thermal energy of 7.63×1017 J, equivalent to 26.1 Mt of standard coal, the dynamic geothermal fluid extractable quantity is equivalent to 1.01 Mt of standard coal per year, indicating a high development potential. Based on this, a method for extracting geothermal water from mines is proposed based on the theory and framework of coal-heat co-mining, along with an intelligent scheduling technology for geothermal water extraction based on ground heat load. By calculating the thermal load of the mining area, a geothermal water extraction scheme for mines is designed, followed by on-site industrial experiments. The results indicate that the development and utilization of geothermal water from mines can meet the winter heating needs of an area of 170 000 m2 in Pingdingshan No.10 Mine and provide daily bathing for over 7 000 employees, while reducing coal consumption by approximately 10 327 tons per year, equivalent to a CO2 emission reduction of 26 900 tons per year, bringing about an economic benefit of 6.938 million RMB to the company. Therefore, deep mine geothermal water extraction has significant benefits in terms of safety, economy, society, and environment, making a valuable contribution to achieve China’s “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals.
