Research progress in the flotation separation of kaolinite

    • Kaolinite, as a common associated clay mineral, can interfere with the effectiveness of flotation separation due to its unique adsorption properties. Therefore, studying the flotation surface mechanism of kaolinite and the flotation separation of different kaolinite systems plays a crucial role in improving the flotation efficiency of target minerals. Based on the latest research on kaolinite by researchers, this paper elaborates on the specific mechanism and principles of synergistic enhancement of combined collectors, focusing mainly on the separation of carbonaceous and non-carbonaceous kaolinite. For the application of flotation reagents in different kaolinite systems, the interaction between the kaolinite surface, water molecules and reagents is systematically investigated. In response to the limitations of existing research, this paper proposes to establish a research platform on the synergistic enhancement mechanism between collectors that combines theoretical calculations with analytical characterization. This platform aims to develop new analytical characterization techniques, enhance fundamental research on aspects such as promoting solubility and dispersion between reagents, establish corresponding structure-activity relationships, and utilize big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence. This research will have a significant impact on research into the flotation separation of kaolinite and target minerals.
