A regional specialization and disparity analysis of mining industry in Yunnan province based on employment time series

We propose an improved approach and procedure in the measurement of regional specialization disparities in mining industry,and apply this approach to the measurements and analysis of the mining regional specialization and its differences across municipals and prefectures in Yunnan province. We first introduced employment time-series based location quotient(LQ) analysis to obtain sample data on the characterization and distribution of specialization across the mining industry. Through both point and interval estimation of the mean of the LQs,we discovered that significant regional differences do exist in the industrial specialization levels. Analysis of variance further confirmed this finding. We then measured the degrees of differences between any two regions by multiple comparison analysis,and the results show significant discrepancies and mismatches between the level of specialization and the need of mining industrialization for a number of regions in Yunnan province.
