Abstract
Tanzania is the largest gold producing country in East Africa, endowed with a gold reserve of ca.2 300 tons. The majority of gold deposits in Tanzania are concentrated in the Lake Vitoria Region, they are orogenic gold deposits related to greenstone belts, and are tectonically controlled.Gold deposits are divided into quartz vein type in the shearing belt and ferruginous formation related type according to their occurrences.According to the occurrence characteristics and ore controlling factors of gold deposits in Tanzania, the author has delineated 12 gold resources prospective areas such as North Mara prospect in the paper, and further proposed that the Mazoka prospect in Dodoma region in Central Tanzania, Magambazi gold prospect in southeastern Tanzania and Lupa gold prospect in Proterozoic orogenic belts in southwestern Tanzania have similar metallogenic environments with goldfields in the Lake Victoria Region, comprising of promising gold-bearing areas.
