Influence of initial crack dip angle on failure mode and peak strength of rock

    • The initial crack dip angle is one of important factors affecting crack propagation process and damage-fractured mode of rock.Failure process of single fractured rock under uniaxial compression was simulated using numerical test of rock failure RFPA.The results show that there are three failure forms such as tension-shear combined fracture, tension fracture and shear fracture in the specimens with different initial crack dip angles. The influence of initial crack dip angle on peak strength of rock mass can be divided into three classes. The peak strength of cracked samples tends to increase with the increase of the initial crack dip angle in the first class. In the second class, the peak strength of cracked samples tends to decrease first and then increase with the increase of the initial crack dip angle. The peak strength of cracked samples tends to increase first and then decrease and then increase with the increase of the initial crack dip angle.
