Mineral resources and development in Peru

The Republic of Peru locates in the west of South America.The Andes metallogenic belt runs through the country,contributing to superior metallogenic geology,high geological work level and rich mineral resources.Mining is the pillar industry of the nation’s economy.Dominant mineral resources include Cu,Sn,Pb,Zn,Au and Ag,the reserve and yield of which both take an important share in the world.Mineral exploration and development are encouraged by the Peru government,which has constituted and implemented incentive policies.Peru has maintained friendship relationship with China.Chinese-invested enterprises are playing a more and more important role in the local mineral development.Starting from 2012,as global mineral product prices continue to fall,most of the mining operators in Peru have been challenged by fund shortage and operation problems.This offers an opportunity for the entry of Chinese-invested enterprises.It is recommendable that Chinese-invested enterprises employ their fund,technology and market advantages,gain access into the local market and exploit the dominant mineral resources in the local area by selecting the right way of intervention,making the best use of the national funds and policies while carefully evading potential risks.
