Current status and outlook of mineral resource development in major function zones

The strategy of major function zoning is a strategic initiative for optimizing national spatial development pattern,and its implementation put forward new requirement for the spatial pattern of mineral resource development.This paper analyzed current status and outlook of mineral resource development in different types of major function zones,and concluded that the development areas of metal mineral resources were overlapped spatially with the ecological function zones,and the development areas of coal resources were overlapped spatially with the development-prioritized zones.The center of spatial distribution of important mineral resources is shifting toward western regions in China,where are main regions of ecological service supply.The development of mineral resources becomes a key threat for constructing ecological function zones in western regions.This paper suggested that feasibility studies for strategic reserve of minerals ore-fields should be conducted in ecological function zones in order to safeguard ecological security in China.
