Ecological monitoring and evaluation of open-cast coal mines based on remote sensing——A case study of Huolin river 1st open-pit mine

    • Based on the remote sensing technology coupled with field survey and GIS,a new ecological impact assessment system for open-cast coal mines was built. This system, which can quantitatively assess the ecological impact, included different level of data and index in line with the subject vary by an order of magnitude. The 2-5m resolution image was suitable for mine dump as well as 20-30m resolution images for land cover change. The vegetation coverage change was calculated by the NDVI function and the vegetation long term fluctuation analyzed by LAI.According to the case study of 1st open-pit mine in Huolin river, this system was effective and accurate and could be illuminating for ecological construction and restoration.
