Status and challenges of Canadian oil sands industry

Oil sand,as an important type of unconventional oil resource in the world,is attracting more and more attentions in recent years.Since the Canadian oil sands industry is changing fast,it is necessary to know the latest dynamics of it.Based on the latest information and data,this paper introduces the status of Canadian oil sands development and the status of major Canadian oil sands producers.Through quantitative analysis of the Canadian oil sands industry performance,the author find that although the production and sales revenue of Canadian oil sands industry are growing,the financial performance and stock market performance are both declining in recent years.Furthermore,this paper summarizes five major challenges that Canadian oil sands industry faces based on both the analysis above and evaluation results of related agencies.The five challenges are: weak oil sands price,high industry cost,limited export channels,objection of aborigines and the stricter and stricter industry regulations.
