STUDY ON THE STRUCTURE AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF ZEOLITE COMPOSITE ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS CARRYING SILVER AND CERIUM
-
Abstract
A new type of zeolite composite antimicrobial agents was prepared by introducing silver and cerium into zeolite through ion-exchange method and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The antimicrobial activity and light permanency of the antimicrobial agents were also evaluated. The results of structure analysis for 4# sample, which contained mass fraction of 3.2% of silver and 1.9% of cerium, showed that the crystalline structure of zeolite was not obviously affected by the exchange reaction except its crystal space distance with a small enhancement, and that no significant changes in crystal structure of antimicrobial agent were also found by the heat treating at less than 700℃,as well as that the composite antimicrobial agent with uniform size possessed octahedron in shape. Moreover, the activity components of silver and cerium in 4# sample were in ionic state. The result of antimicrobial tests indicated that there existed cooperative effect of silver and cerium in composite antibacterial agent, and that the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of 4# sample against S.aereus and E.coli.were 100mg·L-1 and 300mg·L-1 respectively. In addition,4# sample showed excellent light permanency.
