Impact of climate change on tailings pond flood control safety

Climate change characterized by global warming will result in the increase in frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation events, impacting the design standard for tailing pond flood control works. This paper discusses the necessity of emphasis on the impact of climate change on tailings pond flood control. Besides, tailings ponds whose site safety is essential are taken as examples to discuss the necessity of introducing "probable maximum precipitation" (PMP) into the tailings pond flood control design standard.
