Study on preparation and fire retarded properties of PBT/OMMT nanocomposites

Abstract
Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)/montmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposites were prepared by melting intercalation method, joined flame retardant in order to improve flame retarded properties of PBT. The structure and interface features of the nanocomposites were characterized by XRD and SEM, and discussed the mechanism of flame retardant. The results showed that adding OMMT can improve flame retarded properties, but the effect was not obvious, co-addition OMMT and fire retardant may play a synergy effect, in the conditions of not reduce the flame retarded properties (reach to V-0 level), the amount of fire retardant can be dropped to half, materials costs were significantly reduced.
