Abstract
The continuous increase of China's aluminum production in recent years not only caused a huge consumption of bauxite resources and energy, but also lead to negative impact on the environment. In order to solve the problems of resources loss and environmental pollution in alumina industry, aluminum resources efficiency, energy intensity and carbon dioxide emission factor of different alumina production processes were compared in this paper for the sustainable development of alumina industry.Based on the material data of typical enterprises of three major alumina production processes, we constructed the material flow diagram of Bayer process, sintering process and combination process; and compared the resources and energy efficiency and carbon emission intensity of the three processes. The results show that:the Bayer process are characterized by low energy consumption and high metal loss, and its red mud is serious to water and soil; energy intensity and carbon emissions are the highest for sintering method, thus it has great potential for energy conservation and emission reduction; and combination process has the highest utilization of aluminum resources.
