Situation of iron ore resources and prospecting direction in Beijing

The annual steel output is increasing rapidly in our country at present and accordingly, domestic iron ore supply falls short of demand on the market, which leads to a sharp rise in the price of iron ore. As an important sort of mineral resources in Beijing, the retainable reserves of iron ore (profitable and being worth mining) is smaller than 2 hundred million tons in Beijing area, which will probably allow a relatively short 40-year exploitation for Beijing's existing mining corporations. The situation is tense. It is necessary to enhance the prospecting of iron ore deposits and find new ones so as to meet the steel demand for the iron ore supply. The northern mountain area of Miyun County and Huairou District is rich in metamorphic rocks, which is the main destination for iron ore deposit (AnShan type) exploration in Beijing.
