A brief research on China's overseas mineral resources supply security

Supply security of overseas mineral resources is the important connotation of Chinese resources security. The paper studies the comprehensive external dependency of mineral resources. Furthermore, through the analysis of present situation and future trends of Chinese mineral resources, the paper systematically analyses Chinese overseas supply security from three dimensions, import concentration, import sources and import channel security. The paper points out that the overall external dependency of Chinese mineral resources has reached 41%, and it will remain high in the future. In the short term, this situation is difficult to change. In addition, the import sources of overseas resources is highly concentrated. More than 40% is from the areas of poor stability, and 68% of the minerals import via unstable South China sea region. To sum up, the futuref supply security of mineral resources looks bleak.
