Study on flocculation behaviors & mechanism of different flocculating agents of fine hematite and quartz particle

Abstract
The influences of flocculant types,stirring intensity on flocculation behaviors of fine hematite and quartz particle were studied by sedimentation experiments.The results shows that four kinds of flocculants in the same concentration,the order of fine hematite was corn starch > sodium carboxymethyl cellulose > sodium dodecylsulphate> polyacrylamide.The hematite and quartz particles can be better flocculated with the increase of stirring speed in a range,but the flocculation effect becomes worse when the stirring speed exceed a critical value.The analyse of the zeta potentials show that starch can be adsorbed onto hematite minerals which increased the zeta potential of the hematite and lowed electrostatic repulsion of between the particles.
